architectural millwork
& fabrication
While we absolutely love restoration & preservation work, sometimes years and years of neglect have made it nearly impossible to restore an old window, door, or architectural feature. Or sometimes, folks want to build an addition or a new home and would like newly designed wooden features. We are happy to fabricate new wooden features in any period or style of architecture, from old to modern! We still use time-tested methods. Everything we build is built to last!
custom maple staircase
This staircase was designed with the clients. They own a midcentury style home and wanted a solid wood staircase made to complement the style of the home. We squared the nosing of the treads and forewent a traditional skirtboard running the risers and treads all the way against the wall. The planning and design work for this project paid off big time!
new storm windows
We made all custom wood storm windows with operating hardware for this early 1900's farmhouse. The owner did not want hassle of removing the storm windows in the summer so they all open for ventilation. We can also build custom wooden storms with removable screen and glass panels that can be switched easily from inside your home.
reproduction casement sashes
We replaced the tired casement windows in a 1920's foursquare with reproduction windows. The originals were made from Douglas Fir but even the old growth wood couldn't stand up to the weather this part of the home received for the last 100 years. We built these using American White Oak which is much more weather resistant. Using traditional through mortise and tenon joinery these sashes will outlast the originals.
reproduction fir double hung sash
Sometimes efficiency, costs, and aesthetics trump restoration. These sashes were built to replace hastily made replacement sashes. This photo showcases our commitment to traditional joinery methods we use. Through mortise and tenon joints pegged with oak are the strongest and most reliable sash joinery method available. The sashes will be varnished on the interior and painted with a no-VOC solvent free Linseed oil paint. We are the only company that offers this paint system in our area.
